Reading Girl Resin Statue 32cm

A young woman lies on her front with a book open in front of her and her feet kicked up behind, cast in resin and finished to look like worked stone. At 32 centimetres long she reads as a small figure rather than an ornament, and the horizontal pose suits a shelf edge, a wide windowsill or the end of a mantelpiece where an upright piece would look stranded.

The full footprint is 32 by 7 by 17 centimetres, so it needs a surface at least a hand's width deep and will overhang a narrow floating shelf. Resin takes fine detail well, and the folds of the skirt and the pages of the book are crisp rather than softened. The finish is matte, which keeps highlights off the face under downlighters and photographs better than a gloss.

Dust it with a dry soft brush and wipe with a barely damp cloth; solvents and abrasive creams will dull the surface permanently. Resin is solid but brittle, so it will chip if it falls, and it belongs on a stable surface well back from the edge, out of reach of small children and pets. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can yellow pale resin over several years.
