Rechargeable Burr Coffee Grinder

Blade grinders chop beans into a mixture of dust and boulders, which is why the same coffee can taste sour and bitter in the same cup. This grinder uses a conical ceramic burr instead, crushing beans between two shaped surfaces at a set gap so the grounds come out an even size. The adjustment ring sits on the outside of the body with thirty-eight click stops, running from fine enough for espresso through to coarse for a cafetiere.

It is cordless, driven by a 1500mAh rechargeable battery and topped up over USB-C, so it can live on the worktop without a trailing lead or sit in a bag for coffee away from home. The hopper takes about twenty-five grams of beans, roughly two decent cups, and the ceramic burr is rated for around eight thousand grinds. Ceramic also stays cool, which keeps the aromatics in the grounds rather than driving them off as heat.

The body is moulded plastic with a painted finish in black or white, light enough to hold steady in one hand while it works. Empty and brush the burr chamber regularly rather than washing it, as burrs should stay dry. Charge fully before first use, and use any UK-approved USB mains adapter or a laptop port; a plug is not supplied.
