Resin Cat Figurine Table Lamp

A seated cat, twenty-five centimetres tall and fifteen across, cast in resin with a mosaic pattern moulded into the surface so that the light coming through it breaks into coloured panels. Switched off it works as an ornament on a shelf or a hall table; switched on it throws small patches of amber and green onto whatever is behind it, which is a good deal more interesting than a plain nightlight.

The base is metal rather than resin, which gives it enough weight to stay put on a narrow shelf. At eight hundred grams it is substantial without being awkward to move, and the footprint is small enough for a bedside table that is already crowded. It suits a hallway console, a bookshelf, a windowsill, or a child's room where a soft coloured light is more welcome than a bright one.

Power comes from a USB plug rather than mains wiring, so it can run from a wall adapter, a bedside charger or a laptop. Use a UK USB power adapter. This is a lamp rather than a toy and should be placed out of reach of small children and pets, where it cannot be pulled off a shelf. Clean the resin with a soft dry cloth and avoid household cleaners, which can dull the finish.
