Ribbed Green Glass Pendant Light

Ribbed glass scatters light in a way smooth glass cannot, breaking a single source into dozens of vertical highlights that move as you walk past. This shade is a squat, fluted dome in a deep bottle green, fifteen centimetres across and the same again tall, with a gold-finished collar and ceiling plate. The green is strong enough to register as a colour rather than a tint, so the fitting does real decorating work even when the light is off.

The size is the point. At fifteen centimetres it is too small to light a room alone, which frees it to be used the way small pendants work best: two or three in a row above a kitchen island, a pair either side of a bed in place of table lamps, or a single one over a console in a hallway. Hung in a row the ribbing lines up and the repetition does far more than one large shade would.

It takes a single E27 bulb, not supplied. A clear filament LED shows the ribbing off properly and casts the pattern onto the surface below; a frosted bulb gives a gentler, more even pool if the fitting is hanging at eye level. The cord length is adjustable when the light is installed, so the drop can be set to suit the worktop or table underneath.
