Riplo Blue Ripple Glass Pendant Light

The Riplo hangs a 20cm blue glass globe from a brass lamp holder on a black cord. The glass is blown with a dimpled ripple pattern, so the surface breaks the light into dozens of small highlights instead of one flat reflection. The brass collar and slim cord keep the top of the pendant visually light rather than heavy.

Coloured glass gives the fitting two different characters in the same room. By day the globe reads almost solid and works as an object in the ceiling line; once the lamp is on it turns luminous and throws a soft blue cast onto the surfaces below. One E27 lamp sits inside and is supplied, so the pendant is ready to run without sourcing a bulb separately.

It suits a kitchen island, a breakfast bar, a bedside drop or a hallway of around 5 to 10 square metres, and a run of two or three over an island does not crowd the ceiling. Set the drop so the globe clears sightlines across a worktop, and match the heights across a run before the cords are finally fixed. The fitting is hardwired and assembly is needed, so a qualified electrician should carry out the installation. Wipe the rippled glass with a dry soft cloth.
