Ritto Alabaster Column Wall Light

The Ritto is a tall rectangular block of white alabaster held to the wall by a slim brass bracket. Lit, the stone glows from within and the natural veining shows through as a soft cloudy pattern that differs from piece to piece. Unlit, it reads as a pale stone column against the wall.

Alabaster is naturally translucent, so the light comes from the whole face of the stone rather than from a bulb behind a shade. The output is soft and even with no glare, which is what makes a pair of these work either side of a bed. The brass cross that holds the stone is the only hardware on show and it warms up over time. The block stands 48 cm high and 12 cm wide.

The Ritto suits a bedroom, hallway, stairwell or dining room, and it is at its best hung in pairs at matching heights. Because stone carries some weight, check the fixings suit the wall construction before mounting. The LED is built in and included, the fitting is hardwired and rated IP20 for indoor use, and assembly is required, so installation is best carried out by a qualified electrician. Dust the alabaster with a soft dry cloth and keep water and sprays away from it.
