Round Embossed Floral Placemats, Set of 4 or 6

The flower pattern here is embossed rather than printed, pressed into the faux leather so it catches the light and changes as you move around the table. At roughly 38 centimetres across, each mat sits comfortably under a dinner plate with room for cutlery either side, and the circular shape works particularly well on a round table where square mats always end up slightly out of true with one another.

Underneath the decoration these are working mats. The surface takes a hot serving dish without marking, shrugs off spilled sauce and wine, and cleans up with a damp cloth rather than a wash cycle. A textured backing stops them sliding when someone cuts into something firm, and because the material is thin they stack flat in a drawer instead of taking up a shelf in the dresser like woven or wooden mats do.

Three colours are offered, black, red and yellow, in sets of four or six. The black reads as the quiet choice under white china; the red and yellow are better suited to a table that already has some colour in it. Wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent and leave flat to dry. They are not dishwasher safe, and like any faux leather they should be kept away from hob rings and direct flame.
