Round Wall Mirror, 31 cm Gold

Small round mirrors are one of the most useful things to have spare. At thirty-one centimetres across, this one fits the awkward places a large mirror cannot: the narrow strip beside a front door, above a cloakroom basin, over a radiator shelf, or in a gallery arrangement with framed prints where a circle breaks up a wall of rectangles.

The frame is a warm antique gold with a vintage profile - moulded detail around the rim rather than a plain flat band - which gives it more presence than the size suggests. It is finished on a lightweight moulded body rather than cast metal, which is what keeps a mirror of this diameter light enough to hang from a single fixing without special anchors or a rail.

A keyhole fitting is built into the back, so it goes straight onto a screw or picture hook with nothing to assemble. The glass is clear and true, with no distortion across the face. Hang it where it can pick up a window or a lamp and it will bounce light into a dark corner. Clean it with a soft cloth and a glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth rather than onto the mirror itself, which stops liquid creeping behind the frame edge.
