These are pillowcases only. No pillows are included, so the covers go over the pillows you already own; at 48 x 74cm they suit a standard pillow, and the zip closure along the edge keeps everything enclosed rather than gaping open at one end the way a housewife opening can. Microfibre keeps them light and quick to dry, and they can go through the machine as normal laundry.

The ruffle is the reason to choose them. It gives a made bed a soft, slightly old-fashioned edge that plain cases cannot, and because the stripes are muted rather than bright, mixing two colourways across a double bed looks considered rather than accidental. Layered over a plain duvet cover they do enough on their own; against a patterned one, stick to a single colourway and let the ruffle read as texture.
