Scalloped Glass Flower Pendant Light

The shade is blown and pressed into a scalloped flower shape, twenty-five centimetres across and twenty deep, with each petal curving outwards so the rim is a wavy line rather than a circle. It hangs from a brass collar on a hundred and fifty centimetre cord, which gives plenty of scope to set the drop over a dining table or shorten it for a hallway. The shape is period-inflected without being a copy of anything in particular.

Colour makes three quite different fittings out of one mould. Green is the deepest and turns the light distinctly warm on its way through the glass. Gold is closer to amber and gives the softest result of the three, flattering in a room used mostly in the evening. White is opaque rather than tinted, so it puts more light into the room and behaves like a conventional shade while keeping the flower profile.

A single E26 or E27 bulb sits inside, not supplied. Because the glass is coloured, the bulb choice matters: a warm white LED reinforces the tint, while a neutral one keeps the colour readable without pushing the whole room amber. Hang it high enough that the rim is above eye level when seated, and dust the scallops with a soft dry brush rather than a wet cloth.
