Seventies Revival Wall Light

A ten centimetre frosted globe on a matching ten centimetre disc, standing eighteen centimetres proud of the wall: this is a shape lifted straight out of the nineteen seventies and it has aged well. The frosted plastic shade keeps the light soft and glare-free, which is why fittings like this were popular in bedrooms and hallways in the first place. Painted iron gives it the right weight and a properly solid feel.

Three base colours are available. White is the most discreet and works in almost any room; black makes the globe stand out sharply and suits a modern scheme borrowing a retro shape; red is the most committed of the three and is best used deliberately, as a single accent against a plain wall rather than repeated down a corridor. The globe itself is the same frosted white on all three.

The fitting takes a G4 capsule and runs on ninety to two hundred and sixty volts. You can order it without a bulb if you already have the colour temperature you want, or with a warm white or cool white bulb supplied. It is not dimmable and is not compatible with smart lighting systems. Installation is hardwired, so use a qualified electrician and isolate the circuit at the consumer unit first.
