Shigenobu Ramen Bowl

Ramen needs a bowl built for it. Too shallow and the broth cools in minutes; too narrow and there is no room to arrange the toppings properly. This one holds 1200ml across a 20cm mouth with 8.5cm of depth, which is the proportion Japanese noodle shops actually use, and it makes a noticeable difference to how a bowl of ramen eats at home.

Six glaze colours are available, each finished with the slight tonal variation that comes from a real glaze rather than a printed transfer. The interior is glazed smooth right to the base so noodles do not catch, and the foot is left with enough of a ring to keep the bowl stable on a table even when it is full and heavy. Sold individually, so a set can mix colours or match.

The capacity makes it far more versatile than the name suggests. It handles pho, laksa, a generous curry and rice, a big salad, or a family-sized serving of pasta with room to toss it. The ceramic is dishwasher and microwave safe. Avoid moving it straight from the fridge to a hot microwave, and take care when carrying a full bowl - 1200ml of hot broth is heavier than it looks and the rim gets hot in a microwave.
