Six-Tier Rolling Plant Stand

A window ledge runs out of room long before a plant collection does. This stand answers that by staggering six pot rings across a tall wrought iron frame, so each plant gets its own light rather than being crowded behind the one in front. The frame is finished in matt black, thin enough in profile that it reads as a line drawing against a wall rather than a piece of furniture.

The whole thing rolls. Four castors underneath mean the stand can be pushed towards a window in winter and back from the glass in a heatwave, and moved aside entirely when you want to clean the floor behind it. That sounds like a small thing until you own a stand that does not move, at which point you discover how much a fully planted one weighs and how rarely it gets watered properly.

It stands seventy-three by thirty-one and a half by eighty centimetres, and each ring takes a pot up to twenty-three centimetres across, which covers most nursery pots without repotting. The painted finish resists rust well enough for a covered terrace or a conservatory as well as indoors. Keep saucers under the pots so water does not run down the frame, and wipe the metal dry if it does.
