A hanging garden light built as a small hot air balloon, with a fabric envelope stretched over a metal frame and a little basket slung underneath. Lit after dark the fabric glows from within and the seams of the envelope show as fine vertical lines, which is a warmer and softer effect than any of the hard plastic lanterns that usually end up in a tree or under a pergola.
It runs entirely on solar power, so there is no cable to run and nothing to switch. The panel charges through the day and an integrated warm white LED comes on at dusk. The piece measures twenty one centimetres across and forty tall and weighs four hundred grams, light enough to hang from a branch, a pergola beam or a shepherd's hook without any special fixing.
The rating is IP44, which covers rain and splashing but not immersion, so do not hang it where it will sit in standing water or be hit by a jet from a hose. Hang it securely and clear of head height. The LED is built in and cannot be replaced by the user; when it eventually fails the whole unit is at the end of its life.
