Soleno Matt Black Ring Ceiling Light

The Soleno is a single matt black ring hung just below the ceiling on a short offset arm. The ring itself is the light: a continuous band of acrylic runs around the inner face and glows evenly the whole way round, so there is no bulb on show and no bright spot anywhere on it. Switched off, it reads as a plain dark circle against the plaster rather than as a piece of hardware.

Because the ring sits a little below the ceiling plate, light spills upward as well as down and washes the ceiling behind it. That softens a whole room rather than dropping a hard pool of light onto the middle of the floor. Three colour temperatures are switchable at the wall, so the same fitting runs cool and bright for working and warm and low in the evening. It measures 50 cm across and 10 cm deep.

That shallow depth suits a bedroom, living room, hallway or home office, and works where headroom rules out a pendant. The LED is built in and included, the fitting is hardwired and rated IP20 for indoor use, and assembly is required, so installation is best carried out by a qualified electrician. Dust the ring with a dry cloth; the acrylic band needs nothing more than an occasional wipe.
