Solia Opal Glass Twin Wall Light

The Solia puts two pieces of opal glass on one bracket: a tall cylinder pointing up and a smaller cup pointing down. Light leaves in both directions at once, which lifts the ceiling and drops a usable pool onto a bedside table at the same time. The glass is opal rather than clear, so both shades read as solid white shapes when the light is off and give nothing away about the bulbs inside them.

Switched on, they glow evenly with no visible bulb and no hot spot at the rim. Between them sits a brushed brass double cone on a round wall plate, the only metal on show and the detail that gives the fitting its shape. It stands 35 cm high and 14 cm wide, and takes two small candle bulbs, which are not included, so the brightness and colour temperature can be chosen to suit the room.

The Solia suits a bedroom, hallway, stairwell or bathroom, and is at its best hung as a pair either side of a bed or a mirror. It is hardwired and rated IP20 for indoor use, so installation is best carried out by a qualified electrician and the fitting should be kept well away from direct splashing. Wipe the glass with a soft, barely damp cloth and dry the brass rather than leaving it wet.
