A solid metal sphere set close against the wall, this sconce is a quieter alternative to the flat discs and linear bars that dominate modern wall lighting. The smaller 13 centimetre version works in pairs either side of a bed or along a corridor; the 20 centimetre version holds its own as a single piece beside a stairwell or over a sideboard. Gold, black and white finishes are available.
The light source is a 10 watt integrated LED running at 3000 kelvin, which is a properly warm white rather than the flat neutral tone many LED fittings default to. Because the sphere is opaque metal, the output is directed rather than scattered, washing the wall above and below the fitting and leaving the body itself reading as a dark or gilded form during the day.
This is a hardwired fitting running on 220-240 volts and should be installed by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated first. It is rated for dry indoor locations only and must not be fitted in bathroom zones 0, 1 or 2. Fix into something solid rather than plasterboard alone, and let the metal cool before you handle it after a long period switched on.
