Stone Head Sculptural Tissue Box

Tissue boxes are one of those things nobody has ever managed to make look good on a side table. This one takes the opposite approach and turns the cover into a sculpture: a solemn head in cast resin, drawing loosely on the language of monumental stone carving, with a heavy brow, a long nose and a calm, fixed expression.

It stands 28cm tall on an 18 x 16.5cm footprint, so it reads as an object in its own right on a console, a shelf or a bathroom counter. A standard rectangular tissue box slides in from underneath and lifts straight out when it needs changing, and the tissue feeds through the top without the cardboard ever being on show. Four finishes are available: white, brown, green and black, running from pale and chalky through to near graphite.

Because it is tall and reasonably weighty, give it a stable surface and set it back from the edge rather than perching it on a narrow ledge. It is a decorative piece and not a toy, so keep it out of reach of small children. Wipe the surface with a dry or barely damp cloth and the resin holds its colour well. Grouped with books or a lamp it settles into a shelf easily, and on its own it will carry a quiet corner.
