StormLite IP66 Outdoor Wall Light

An IP66 rating is the useful number on an outdoor fitting. It means the housing is sealed against dust entirely and against powerful jets of water, which in British terms covers wind-driven rain hitting a wall head on rather than just the vertical drizzle a lower rating survives. That makes this a fitting you can put on an exposed elevation rather than only under a porch roof.

The body is moulded ABS in matt black, which has a practical advantage over metal outdoors: it does not corrode at the fixings, and it will not stain the wall below with rust streaks after a wet winter. The shape is a simple rectangular lantern with a diffused face, deliberately plain, so it works on a modern render wall and an older brick one without looking out of place on either.

The LED is integrated at ten watts and produces a warm white output, which is the right choice outdoors because cold white makes a garden look like a car park. Ten watts is enough to light a doorway, a few steps or a section of path, not a whole garden. The fitting runs across a wide input range and is hardwired to an outdoor circuit rather than plugged in.
