Tall Bamboo Laundry Basket

Laundry baskets are usually either wide and shallow, which eats floor space, or a plastic bin that nobody wants on show. This one goes upward instead: sixty-nine centimetres tall on a footprint of thirty-three by forty-four, so it holds a full family wash while occupying the sort of narrow gap that exists beside a wardrobe, behind a bathroom door or at the end of a run of units.

The frame is bamboo, which is light, strong and comfortable in a damp room in a way that untreated softwood is not, and it looks like a piece of furniture rather than a utility item. The fabric liner sits inside the frame and holds its shape, so clothes do not spill over the sides, and the open top means you can throw things in from a distance without lifting a lid.

Three colours are offered, grey, navy and beige, all of them quiet enough to leave in a bedroom or a bathroom without it drawing attention. It works equally well for toys in a playroom, spare bedding at the end of a bed, or towels in a bathroom. Wipe the bamboo frame with a barely damp cloth and let the liner dry fully before refilling; do not leave wet towels sitting in it for days.
