Textured Non-Slip Entrance Mat

A doormat earns its place by how much it stops at the threshold, and this one is built around a deep textured surface that scrapes grit from soles and holds it below the pile rather than pushing it back onto the floor. The pattern is a simple tonal weave with no lettering or slogan, which means it will still look right in two years and does not shout at anyone arriving at the door.

The face is polypropylene, chosen because it dries quickly and does not rot if it gets a soaking, and it is bonded to a solid rubber backing that grips tiles, boards and concrete alike. That backing also keeps the edges flat, which matters on a mat that gets walked over dozens of times a day. Two colours are offered, a soft green and a mid grey, both of which hide everyday dirt better than a pale mat.

Choose forty-five by seventy-five centimetres for a standard single doorway, or sixty by ninety for a wider entrance or a spot where people tend to stand and take off boots. The mat is machine washable at a cool temperature and dries fast enough to be back in place the same day. Shake it out weekly and give the area underneath a sweep, which stops trapped grit working its way into the floor.
