Trono Black Cage Wall Light

The Trono is a slim industrial sconce built around a single vertical axis: a matte black backplate, two turned end caps, and a narrow cage of thin steel rods running between them. At 47cm tall and only 10cm deep it draws a strong vertical line on a wall while staying clear of a walkway, which is what makes it workable where floor space is tight.

The fixture is metal with a glass shade element, finished in black throughout, so the cage reads as a graphic outline rather than a bulky housing. Because the bulb sits exposed inside the cage rather than behind a diffuser, the fitting throws light up and down the wall and shows off a filament bulb rather than hiding it. Bulbs are not supplied, which leaves the choice of brightness and colour temperature open to you.

The proportions suit a hallway, a landing or either side of a mirror, where the height does more work than a squat fitting would. An IP44 rating means the sconce copes with the damp of a bathroom or a basement as well as a dry room. The open cage collects dust on its rods, so lift it with a dry brush now and then, and let an exposed bulb cool fully before changing it.
