Vacuum Seal Glass Storage Canister

Coffee goes stale because of air, not time. A vacuum canister removes the air rather than just keeping the lid on, and the difference in a bag of beans a fortnight after opening is obvious. This one uses a press lid with an extraction valve: push the top down, the air leaves through the valve, and the seal holds until you release it.

The body is glass, which matters more than it sounds. Unlike plastic it does not take on the smell of what was stored in it last, so a jar used for coffee can later hold rice or dried fruit without ghosting. It also means you can see the level at a glance, which is the small daily convenience that keeps a canister on the worktop rather than in a cupboard.

Four sizes are offered: 500ml holds a standard bag of beans, 900ml a large one, and the 1200ml and 1900ml suit flour, pasta, rice, oats or dog biscuits. The glass tolerates temperatures from minus twenty to a hundred and fifty degrees and is dishwasher safe; the lid holds a valve mechanism and should be wiped with a damp cloth instead. Do not put the lid in the dishwasher or microwave, and check the seal is clean before pressing down.
