Walo Walnut Alabaster Ceiling Light

The Walo is a wide, flat disc of walnut timber sitting over a rounded opal dome, held on a stack of turned wooden beads under a brass canopy. It reads as a piece of furniture on the ceiling rather than as a light fitting. The disc is broad and shallow, so light travels out sideways across the ceiling as well as down into the room, which stops a hallway from feeling like a tunnel and keeps the shadows in a landing soft.

The dome below is glass finished to look like alabaster, with soft amber veining running through it that shows most clearly when the light is on. The bead stack and the brass canopy carry the same warm palette all the way up to the ceiling plate, so nothing on show breaks the run of timber and metal. The fitting measures 36 cm across and 30 cm high, and the 36 W LED is built in and included.

That shallow profile suits a hallway, landing, entrance, bedroom or dining room, and it is a sensible choice in a room where a hanging pendant would sit too low. Assembly is required and the fitting is hardwired, so installation is best carried out by a qualified electrician. Dust the walnut disc with a dry cloth and clean the glass dome with a barely damp one, avoiding solvents on either surface.
