Wipe-Clean Cotton Linen Tablecloth

A tablecloth that has to go in the wash after every meal does not survive family life. This one is woven in a cotton-linen blend and given a water and oil resistant finish, so spilled wine, gravy and juice bead on the surface long enough to be wiped away rather than soaking through into the table.

The finish is applied to the yarn rather than laid over the top as a plastic coating, so the cloth still hangs and feels like fabric: it drapes over the table edge, it is soft to the touch, and it is not shiny. It is also wrinkle resistant, which means it comes out of a drawer ready to use without ironing. Eight designs cover plain and patterned — beige coffee, light grey, two stripes and four checks in brown, green, taro and dark red.

Three sizes fit tables for four to six, eight to ten and ten to twelve places: 132 x 178 cm, 152 x 264 cm and 152 x 305 cm. Wipe with a damp cloth for everyday spills; machine wash cool when needed, and line dry. Do not bleach or iron on a hot setting, which damages the protective finish. For a table in constant use, the plain designs hide crumbs and marks between wipes better than the checks, which is worth weighing against how they look.
