Wood Accent Pull-Switch Wall Light

A pull chain is an underrated feature on a bedside light. It means the switch is always exactly where your hand goes in the dark, with no fumbling for a wall plate or a cord running across the floor. This fitting pairs that with a small enamelled metal shade and a natural wood back plate, sixteen centimetres tall and fifteen wide, which keeps it compact enough to sit beside a bed without crowding the headboard.

The wood is left in its natural finish and forms both the mounting plate and the short arm, so there is a visible warmth to the fitting that a fully painted sconce does not have. Against the wood, the five shade colours behave differently: wheat yellow and lemon yellow are the brightest and most playful, white is the quiet default, pink is soft rather than sweet, and green is the most grown-up of the set.

It takes a single E27 bulb, not supplied, and the source is specified as warm white to suit bedside use. Because the shade is enamelled metal rather than glass, the light is directed downwards in a defined cone, which is good for reading and keeps the glow off a sleeping partner. It is hardwired at mains voltage and rated for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms.
