Wood and Glass Wall Clock

Two materials, handled simply. A turned wood rim gives the clock warmth and a visible grain, and a clear glass face keeps the dial crisp and easy to clean. The contrast is the whole design: nothing applied, nothing printed, just the natural colour of the timber against the flat reflection of the glass, with fine hands sweeping over a pale dial beneath.

It works in more rooms than a purely modern clock does, because the wood stops it feeling cold in a traditional space and the glass stops it feeling rustic in a contemporary one. Grey is the cooler of the two finishes and reads almost neutral; white is brighter and lifts a darker wall. Twenty-five centimetres suits a kitchen, a landing or a home office; thirty centimetres is the better choice above a mantelpiece or a dining table where the wall is larger.

The movement is a quiet quartz sweep, so it keeps time without a tick, and the back has a keyhole slot so it hangs level from a single screw or picture hook. Clean the glass with a soft dry cloth and wipe the wood rim with a barely damp one, never soaking it. Check for concealed pipes and cables before drilling.
