Wooden LED Digital Alarm Clock

A digital alarm clock housed in a wooden frame rather than a plastic one, so the numerals appear to float on the grain when the display is lit and the whole thing reads as an object rather than a gadget when it is not. Two shapes are offered: a 65mm cube that sits neatly on a bedside table, and a longer 150mm bar that suits a desk or a shelf where the time needs reading from further away.

The cube shows the time. The bar model adds a temperature readout alongside it, which is genuinely useful on a desk and costs nothing in clutter because both sit on the same display. Four finishes are available - black, white, sienna and tan - and the wood is left with a visible grain under the paint rather than a flat lacquer, so no two pieces look identical.

Power comes either from a USB lead or from AAA batteries, so the clock can live somewhere without a socket nearby. Batteries and USB adapter are not supplied; use a UK-approved adapter if you power it from the mains. Keep it out of the bathroom and away from radiators and windowsills where condensation collects, since a wooden case will swell if it stays damp. Wipe with a dry cloth only.
