Zebra Stripe Sofa Cover

A zebra stripe is a strong choice, and it works precisely because it is: one bold monochrome piece will carry a room of neutral furniture and plain walls without anything else being asked to do the work. The stripe here is hand-drawn rather than photographic — irregular, tapering, slightly painterly — which keeps it from looking like a print of an animal.

It is a woven cotton blend, medium weight, with the pattern carried through the cloth so the reverse is a negative of the front. That gives it two lives: black-dominant one way, white-dominant the other. The weave is firm enough to hang in clean folds over the arm of a sofa and soft enough to sit against, and the edges are overlocked and turned so they will not fray.

Three sizes: 180 x 130 cm for a chair or the back of a two-seater, 180 x 230 cm for a standard sofa, 180 x 260 cm for a large one. It also works as a bed runner or over a footstool. Machine wash cool on a gentle cycle and line dry. Do not tumble dry or bleach. Turned to the white-dominant side it reads far quieter, which makes it a more flexible buy than a single-sided animal print of the same pattern would be.
