Bamboo Half Cylinder Wall Light 41cm

A flush-mounted wall light with a half-cylinder shade woven from rattan on a bamboo frame. Because the shade is a half round pressed against the wall, the light is thrown up and down in two soft fans rather than out into the room, and the weave breaks it into a pattern of fine lines as it goes. In a hallway or up a stair wall the effect is considerably warmer than a plain plaster uplighter.

Bamboo and rattan are natural materials, which means each shade differs slightly in the tone and spacing of its weave. That is the appeal, and it is also the reason this fitting sits comfortably alongside linen, wool and unfinished wood in a room where a metal sconce would look hard. The colour is a natural beige that will mellow very slightly over years of use, as bamboo does.

It stands 41cm tall with a shade 22cm wide, and because it mounts flush it projects very little, which makes it usable in a corridor narrow enough that a projecting arm would be knocked. The fitting accepts 220 to 240V and is hardwired. Keep the shade dry and dust it with a soft brush rather than a damp cloth, and use an LED lamp: the woven shade sits close to the lamp and should not be exposed to the heat of a halogen.
