Weight and warmth are not the same thing, and this throw is the proof. It is 100 per cent microfibre with a deep, very fine pile, which traps air and feels warm almost immediately without any of the heft of a wool blanket. That makes it the one you actually reach for on a sofa in the evening rather than the one that stays folded on a chair. It is also light enough to fold into a small bundle, which makes it easy to keep in a basket or take to a chair on a cold evening.

Two sizes are offered. The 70 by 100cm is a lap blanket, sized for one person in an armchair or a child on a sofa, and small enough to keep in a basket by the door. The 130 by 165cm covers two people on a sofa or lies across the end of a double bed as an extra layer without hanging awkwardly to the floor.

It washes and dries easily, which matters more than anything else for a throw that lives on furniture: machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low, and keep bleach away from it. A cold wash also protects the pile, which can mat if it is washed hot. Shake it out before folding to keep the fibres standing up.
