Halo Wood-Effect LED Ceiling Light

Low ceilings rule out most decorative lighting, which is why a good flush fitting is worth more than another pendant. This one is six centimetres deep at the smaller sizes and wraps an integrated LED panel in a broad halo frame finished to look like weathered timber. Lit, the light washes out from behind the ring; unlit, it reads as a wooden hoop on the ceiling rather than a light fitting.

The frame is moulded resin rather than real wood, which keeps the weight down on a fitting that has to hang from a ceiling rose, and takes a grain finish that holds its colour without the movement you get from timber in a centrally heated room. The LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to buy, no glass to clean and no socket to work loose. It throws an even, warm-toned wash with no visible hot spots.

Three sizes are offered: thirty-five by twenty-nine and a half centimetres, forty-five by thirty-nine, and fifty-four by forty-six. The two smaller ones suit a hallway, a landing or a small bedroom; the largest carries a sitting room or a kitchen. All three run on standard UK mains supply and are wired in rather than plugged, so they need fitting to an existing ceiling point.
