June Retro Glass Flush Ceiling Light

Small rooms rarely get an interesting ceiling light, because most fittings are scaled for a living room. This one is twenty centimetres across and six deep, which is right for a cloakroom, a boot room, a pantry or the top of a narrow stair, and it uses colour to make up for the size it does not have.

The face is a disc of coloured glass held in a metal ring with an acrylic diffuser behind it. The red and cognac pairing is warm and slightly nostalgic, closer to a nineteen-seventies interior than a mid-century one; the black and smoke grey version is the restrained alternative and works where the ceiling is already busy with beams or pipework. Both are cleanly made with no visible fixings.

A twelve watt LED is integrated behind the glass, giving a warm output sized for a room of roughly five to ten square metres. There is no bulb to source and no socket to fail. The fitting is hardwired to an existing ceiling point at mains voltage, is not dimmable, and is intended for dry indoor spaces rather than bathrooms or covered outdoor areas. At this size it also works well in a pair, spaced along a narrow hallway ceiling.
