Iron Lantern Candle Holder

An openwork iron lantern with a hinged door, a domed top and a loop at the crown for hanging. The frame is cut and pierced rather than moulded, so the candle inside throws a patterned shadow across the wall behind it. The finish is deliberately weathered, which suits a mantelpiece or a hearth far better than anything glossy would, and it looks equally settled on a hall table.

Two heights are offered. The smaller stands 25cm on a 9cm square base and takes a tealight or a slim pillar; the taller is 29cm and has room for a broader church candle. Both share the same footprint, so a pair at different heights groups well. The loop is sturdy enough to hang the lantern from a hook or a bracket, though it is happiest standing on a level surface where the door can swing fully open.

No candle is supplied. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and never move the lantern while the candle is lit or the metal is still hot - iron holds heat for some time after the flame is out. Stand it on a heat-resistant surface, keep it well clear of curtains, shelves and anything else that can catch, and keep it out of reach of children and pets. Let it cool completely before handling.
