Three-Light Crystal Semi-Flush Light

Three crystal shades on a short arm each throw their own set of refractions, which is why a small fitting like this makes more of an impression than its twenty-five centimetre span suggests. The crystal is cut rather than moulded, so the facets are sharp and the light breaks properly instead of just glinting. In a hallway or a small dining room it does the work of a chandelier without the drop.

The frame comes in polished gold or matt black, and the two are genuinely different products in feel. Gold plays up the glamour and warms the crystal further; black holds the shades in a darker outline and makes the whole thing look more deliberate against a white ceiling. Both are semi-flush, sitting between twenty-six and twenty-eight centimetres below the ceiling depending on the finish.

Each shade takes its own E27 bulb, up to sixty watts, none of which are supplied. Three separate sources mean the light is spread rather than concentrated, which suits a hall where you want general brightness. Small clear LED filament bulbs look right behind cut crystal; frosted ones dull the effect. Dust the shades with a soft dry brush rather than a damp cloth.
