Linen and Wood Table Lamp 25cm

A wooden base and a linen shade and nothing else - no metal, no colour, no detail to date it. Lamps like this get bought because they solve a problem rather than because they announce anything: a pair on matching nightstands, a single one on a hall console, something to fill a corner of a shelf that needs light but not attention. The linen takes the hardness out of the bulb and leaves a warm, even wash.

Two forms are offered and the difference is real. The round shade is softer and disappears more readily into a room; the square one gives a crisper silhouette and holds its own against rectilinear joinery or a panelled wall. Both stand 25.4 centimetres tall on a 14 centimetre footprint, which is a small enough base to leave room for a book and a glass on a normal nightstand.

The lamp takes a standard E26 or E27 screw bulb, not supplied, and will run an LED, an incandescent or a fluorescent lamp at 110-120 or 220-240 volts. A warm filament-style LED at around 2700K is the right match for the linen; anything cooler makes the shade look grey. The linen will mark, so keep it away from hands and cooking, and dust it with a soft brush rather than a damp cloth. Keep clear of curtains.
