Pleated Shade Table Lamp 38cm

A classic pleated shade on a slim metal stand, this is the shape most people picture when they think of a bedside lamp, and it has come back into favour for good reason. The folds catch the light unevenly, which gives the shade depth and stops it looking flat against a wall. At thirty-eight centimetres tall and twenty wide it is properly sized for a bedside table rather than being a scaled-down ornament.

Thirteen colourways are offered, pairing a shade with a base tone. Wine and beige, blue and brown and black and brown are the most traditional; wood and white and rattan and white lean natural; pink and beige and cream and speckled are the softest. If you want the lamp to recede, white and white is the quietest of the set. Buying two of the same combination gives a matched pair for either side of a bed.

Inside is a standard E27 screw fitting running on one hundred and ten to two hundred and forty volts, with a toggle switch on the cable so it can be reached without groping behind the shade. A bulb is not included, which means you can choose the brightness and colour temperature yourself; a warm white LED suits the fabric best. Vacuum the pleats gently with a brush attachment rather than wiping them with a cloth.
