Rustina Amber Dome Floor Lamp 155cm

The Rustina borrows its shape from the seventies without tipping into pastiche. A wide amber dome sits at the top of a slim walnut and gold stem, and because the acrylic is tinted rather than clear, the light that leaves it is already warm before it reaches the room. At 155cm it stands just above seated eye level, which is the height at which a dome shade stops glaring and starts glowing.

The 35cm shade is broad enough to light a whole corner rather than a single seat, so it suits the end of a sofa, a dining nook or the turn of a staircase where a ceiling fitting would be awkward. A button switch on the stem handles it. The iron frame is weighted low, and the wood detail keeps the piece from reading as pure metal in an otherwise soft room.

It takes an E27 screw-fit bulb and one is supplied, so it works out of the box, and you can change the colour temperature later simply by changing the bulb. Acrylic scratches more easily than glass, so dust it with a dry microfibre cloth and keep alcohol and solvent cleaners well away from it. Indoor use only, on a level floor.
